Float Fly
Skymasters sponsors the greatest Float Fly east of the Mississippi. We have an ideal location at Island Lake State Park. Check the September calendar for dates and details.
Gary Weaks is hosting a group of approximately 10 Cub Scouts at the Scripps Rd Field on Thursday, May 24, 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.
They will have the plane they built and Gary will have a trainer there. He could use a few more instructors with trainers to help out. Please call Gary at 248-540-8358 if you can help.
This is another great opportunity to show the younger folks what a great hobby this is.
The Cub Scouts will have food there for themselves and the instructors.
On May 9, a majority of the board met with Andy Cole, the Bald Mountain Park Supervisor, to discuss the land being farmed around our flying field. Andy assured the board that Skymasters R/C club is secure, and in the DNR’s long term plans. We look forward to working with Andy and his team for many years to come with this partnership!
We also met briefly with Mark Seeley, the farmer working the land around our field. Mark reconfirmed that he will NOT plant corn or tall crops around our field this year, and quite possibly will not in the years to come for that matter. If Mark should plant corn near the field in future years it will not wrap around the east and west ends, but will only run parallel to the north boundary of our mowed flying field. Mark also reiterated the fact that we are on public land, and that he has no problems with us retrieving aircraft that fall short of our runway.
Mark has cleaned up the dirt clumps that rolled off of his plow, and the grass shoulders along the drive in look clear for mowing once again. A second pass over the land surrounding our field has smoothed out the large chunks of sod and dirt, so walking over it should not be too much of a problem now. Although the landscape will look slightly different, there should be no impact to the many different flying interests at our field.
BALD MOUNTAIN INVOLVEMENT DAY
May 5, 2012

This is what one of the cabins looked like before any work was done, stained way back when.
Here is the cabin primed by Park staff, ready for us to put on the color coat.
After, color coat and trim finished. really looks nice in the wooded setting.
Fred Engelman did a super job of organizing this project, here he is giving final instructions and safety talk.
The crew did a super job. The attitude seemed to be "if this was my airplane, what kind of paint job would I do". We also painted a second cabin, but no room for pictures here.
