Scale & Warbirds Day at Skymasters
« on: August 03, 2015, 10:47:38 AM »
Great weather, great friends, great food, great flying = a GREAT DAY!

Well the 2015 Warbirds and Scale event is over and it was one for the record books. I am not sure how it could have been any better. We were blessed with fair weather considering what was predicted for later in the day, there was a light wind that only interfered with the WWI demo flights. Again, our friends and neighboring clubs brought a lot to our event and a good time was had by all. I want to thank Noel Hunt our local AMA Associate Vice President for attending and flying with us, the crew from RCCD, Propbusters, Romeo Skyhawks and especially the gang from PMAC, and any others I’ve missed.

Parking and food! We only had two problems for the day that I know of, we ran out of parking and cars were lined up on both sides of the driveway almost to the road, and… we ran out of food even after we planned and started with what we thought would be more than enough. I think Dave and Joe said we served nearly 500 hotdogs and brats! That’s with the hamburgers too!

We were streaming live from a webcam at the pit area for a good part of the day… the bleachers were packed most of the time with visitors and guests and our pilots put on a great air show! Congratulations to Phil Saunders who won pilots choice award for best military with his P-47, and Bob Dukelow, “Duke” for winning best civilian with his kit built Fly Baby! Watch for the newsletter with more details about the other winners and the Directors choice award winners too!

F R Mike, aka Fr. Mike won the drawing for a beautiful fully assembled Beechcraft Bonanza built by Joe Rubenstein for the event. Thanks to Dan Berry for help announcing the pilots and planes and his color commentary on the PA throughout the day. Thanks to Gary, Pete, Greg and Russ who worked very hard at the grill to prepare the delicious food. A huge pat on the back and thank you to our two Directors, Event Director, Joe Finkelstine and Contest Director Dave Wendt. Watch for next months’ Skywriter and the website for pictures, anyone with photos is asked to submit them to the club for use on the website and in the newsletter send them to webmaster@skymasters.org or newsletter@skymasters.org.

It truly was another beautiful day at Skymasters !
